More on Milo

I worked on Milo a bit tonight.

He looks like a beefcake. Those arms are a bit large. That's probably because they go off the page. I am fairly happy with his face. I think the right side - the chin needs a little correction. The shadows may be off.

Anyway, this has really been re-teaching me a lot about illustration and what it is really about: meditation. I just focus on the details and observe. I may never be done with this drawing and who cares? The act of drawing is its own reward.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna is told “you are not entitled to the fruits of your labor, only to your labor.” This is something that has become something of a mantra for me in recent times.

Working on the steak

My son, Milo, sometimes sits in my lap while I paint. I let him contribute a little bit with pencils or even paint. Things got out of hand recently while working on the T-Bone Steak.

It's hard to photograph the piece with him in my lap. Today, he worked in grey and tan.

It was like two weeks ago that Milo took a clot of red paint and tossed it at the New York Strip. After "cleaning" it off, the entire right side looked like a CIA wet team came through.

He helped add a whole new narrative to this once simple piece. I am going to need to sand off a lot to get it anywhere near where I want it.
